The Whole Scoop
Jasmine Hands was born in County Cork, Ireland and diagnosed at an early age with schizophrenia. Because of her illness, she never truly felt she belonged, and had trouble making friends. When she reached the age of 8, her first sibling came along, Gabriel Augustine Hands, and she took on the role of part-time parent. According to Jasmine, times were hard then, and her parents needed all the help they could get. At the age of eight, she was able to help out.
Life did not go easy on the now well-known rock singer. The reason for the difficulty, it was later discovered, was because of her mother's drug addiction, and her father's constant abuse. For years, Jasmine would be the buffer between her father and her younger siblings, taking the brunt of Declan's rage to protect them from him and even fighting when necessary.
In 2007, the family; which now consisted of Declan, Cassidy, Jasmine, Gabriel and Connor relocated to America, landing in South Boston where a large Irish Community is already established. According to Jasmine, things only got worse on American soil.
When she turned 14, her father's abuse took a new toll, leaving the young woman with an aversion to physical contact. "It's been hard," she's quoted as saying. "But, luckily, I have Jordan. Without him, I don't think I would know what it is like to feel safe in a man's arms."
2014 would be the year where everything changed. Declan's abuse was finally ended by Cassidy Hands, when she called the police on her husband and following a lengthy trial and testimonies from Jasmine herself, he was locked away. Evidently, for good. In 2017, Declan Hands was killed during an inmate riot in Massachusetts Correctional Institution.
It was earlier that same year that Jasmine found herself in a small town in the South of Louisiana called Hathian, and competing in a music contest that would change her whole life. After The Fall ran a competition that would earn Jasmine her first record deal. She made new friends, and found acceptance for her condition.
"It's proof." Jasmine told reporters. "Proof that despite what others tell you, despite what ailments you might have; you can still find that place where you belong."
After that initial year, some grueling contract negotiations were initiated and Jasmine has chosen to go with a new label that has risen out of Hathian called Rize Productions. The company embodies a new freedom for Jasmine's work, and the promise of greatness in their collaboration.
